The Spire Community is a Place Of Welcome

The Spire Community is a joint collaboration between the Clayton Wesley Uniting Church and Uniting Communities Eastern Services

IMG_8401who are also on the site.

Together, we’ve become a community of helpers, collaborators, social support seekers, arts enthusiasts, music buffs, creative types, bargain hunters, volunteers, gardeners and spiritual revellers.

The projects and activities we develop aim to promote inclusivity and welcome.

These projects include:

Our Jesus was a Refugee campaign aims to educate the wider community about the difficulties refugees and new arrivals face and assists them to meet new people and settle into their new community.

The Spire Community Garden is being developed across the premises in raised garden beds as well as a ‘fixed’ garden on site that local residents can enjoy.

Hope’s Cafe is a cafe in Hope Hall with an aim to provide food and conversation to members of our community who are seeking companionship and assistance. Based on a pay-what-you-can-afford system, it serves, sandwiches, cake, biscuits, coffee and tea each Wednesday lunch time as well as a range of Persian & Australian food for lunch on Fridays. From 11am on Fridays, it offers free English language classes and conversation for new arrivals and other members of our community who need language assistance.

Chaharshanbe SuriChaharshanbe Suri: to welcome new arrivals from Iran and educate locals about their culture, the Spire Community hold an Iranian New Year event at Clayton Wesley each year, which includes Persian food, dancing and the traditional fires, symbolically used in a cleansing ritual.

You can also follow us on Twitter@spirecommunity, and while you are in a social-media mood, why not visit The Spire Community on Facebook?

We are also interested in what you have to say about any projects or services you would like to see in your local community. We also have a number of volunteer activities you can participate in across our different groups and organisations. Please get in touch with us.

Looking forward to seeing you on site!
